BODY. A Life-Changing Therapy?

I’m an inherent skeptic. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. However, the jury is still out for me on a therapy I observed at the Swiss Mountain Clinic: Hemoadsorption Therapy (HAT). While not legal in the US at this time, it is what all of the integrative doctors are buzzing about in Europe.

In simple terms, this therapy is a form of intensive blood filtration aimed to remove environmental pollutants, pesticides, heavy metals, viruses, bacteria and pro-inflammatory mediators. It is suggested for conditions such as autoimmune disease, liver disease, heavy metal pollution, long-COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis, kidney disease, lung disease, and more. In emergency settings, this therapy is used for life-threatening conditions such as sepsis, drug poisoning, multiple organ shut-down, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

It’s one thing to read about it, wondering if it is 21st leech therapy/blood letting, and it’s an entirely different to see it and talk with those administering and experiencing the therapy. I chatted with one woman from San Fran while she was hooked. In her 80s and doing everything to optimize her health and longevity, she had no major diagnoses she was facing. She was at the clinic and for this therapy specifically, not currently legal in the US, to remove environmental pollutants. Her “junk” bag was something to behold, though I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking at with a collection of orange-brown sediment gathered in the bottom of the collection bag. The Swiss Mountain Clinic sends this bag off to a third part lab for testing to understand what the majority of the components are in the filtration process. This may help guide future treatment or inquiries of where toxin burden is occurring.

A doctor I spoke with at the clinic and spent quite a bit of time with relayed that he has seen people with intensive Parkinson’s Disease walk out of the clinic without a tremor after this therapy. He himself has used it for his chronic fatigue and noticed impressive benefit.

The drawbacks? Well, the price for starters. At around $5,000 per treatment, it’s not a cheap therapy that you also have to travel to another country for. Other questions I have that are still unanswered include filer specificity - could it be taking out a lot of the healing messengers in the blood? And, the equipment is all plastic. While it is supposed to be removing microplastics, could it be inputting them, as well?

Overall it seems as if HAT is a cutting edge therapy being implemented with great success in Europe. Studies are currently being conducted in the US to see if it meets FDA approval, which means it could be years until it can be implemented. In the meantime, the Swiss Mountain Clinic has a team of experts that seem to have only positive experiences. With a condition considered untreatable or progressive and potential for benefit, for the right person it could be life-changing. For preventive detoxing, I personally will continue with my usual habits of avoidance of environmental pollutants and regular sweating.
